Team Management
Instructional design projects often vary in scope. I have experience working independently on small projects and managing teams in larger scale projects. Whether working independently or with a team, I work to make sure designers amplify their strengths and thrive in areas they wish to improve. I am most comfortable with democratic styles with a free exchange of ideas. Much like a collaborative learning environment, I want to facilitate colleagues in expressing they own ideas and constructing ideas.
Marketing & Exhibitor Support
Linked to sales but distinct, marketing involvement provides me with the opportunity to re imagine my own projects. Creating and editing marketing communications/press releases allows me to refine my understanding of a project word by word. I enjoy the challenge of discerning each word's effectiveness in persuading a learner.
Sales Support
In the spirit of conference participation, but with the focus on monetizing instructional products, I am comfortable working with sales teams and clients to evaluate return and value instructional products. Involvement with sales functions, also helps me understand what components the largest group of customers value most. Ultimately, while increasing sales is an end goal, I am most interested how sales activities make me a better instructional designer.
Budgeting
Budgeting and managing resources is an ongoing process. The most important of these resources is time. Under or overestimating time issues can most directly impact fiscal and human capital. Time is also the most dynamic resource. The properly challenged team will be taking on new skills and methods while mastering prior learned methods, which means some tasks will be completed faster over time while new ones will require more time. The key is to push colleagues to excel without setting an overly aggressive schedule.
